Total, Official Sponsor of Dakar 2015
TOTAL, the fifth largest private sector energy company in the world and leader in the lubricant market in the region, has been Dakar official sponsor since 1991. TOTAL has been present in South America for almost 30 years and is one of the major actors in the lubricant market with Total Quartz line.
Mr. Etienne Lavigne, Director of the Dakar Rally, Mr. Enrique Meyer, Minister of Tourism of Argentina and Total senior executives attended the official launch of the competition held at the Museo del Bicentenario.
A multifunctional organization formed by TOTAL Group Head Office in Paris, its subsidiaries in Argentina and Chile, and Total Competition made it possible to put in place a logistics service that was even more complex this year, since the 37th edition of the Dakar Rally had, once again, a peculiar work scheme and some new features: cars joined quads to go through Bolivia.
A cross-functional team worked along the route to carry approximately 1.5 million liters of fuel to about 54 GPS points, 20 service stations and 12 airports across the three countries where the competition took place to supply fuel (ground and air) to competition (bikes, quads, cars and trucks), assistance and organization vehicles.
Subsidiaries that faced the challenge
Within the heart of the race, Total Argentina and Total Chile deployed all their resources to assure the event mobility: “It is a great responsibility that we assumed with passion seven years ago. Thanks to Dakar rally we can demonstrate our teams’ high level of professionalism”, said Fabrice Blanc, CEO of Total Especialidades Argentina. Fuel and lubricants provided by the company come from Total laboratories, where research is related to a series of victories in Formula 1, WRC, WTCC, WEC, Moto GP and Superbike.
Elf Moto Trophy
Through this Trophy, the whole range of Elf products were made available to bike and quad amateur riders in an exclusive area located on all bivouacs. These riders also received technical advice from our specialists. Our products’ technical qualities and performance stood out in marathon stages, particularly in Bolivia.
